The best scoring chance of the match came in the 15th minute when Harwich were awarded a penalty but goalkeeper Paul Rolfe made an easy save from the normally lethal Martin Calver. The Shrimpers enjoyed more of the possession during the first half but the Hatfield Peverel defence was a solid unit and allowed them no clear cut chances.
After the break Harwich continued to spend more time in the visitors half but now with Luke Hale prominent Hatfield were dangerous on quick breakaways. In one such move Ollie Walker threatened to give Hatfield the lead but Sam Felgate advanced smartly from his goal to snuff out the danger.
Matt Stace, Ashley Wood and Calver mounted some clever attacks for Harwich from midfield with Rolfe saving with his feet, later Robbie Marks unable to apply the finishing touch whilst a John Stace shot went just outside the post. Hatfield theatened to steal a late winner from a free kick but Daryl Eagle and Jake Neale had been outstanding in the Harwich defence and the ball was safely cleared.
