With Sam Felgate back in goal, Matt Stace was able to take up a more usual role and strengthen the Harwich midfield. In fact this was the strongest line up that the Shrimpers have put out so far this season and they were to prove too good for Gas Rec. Early on the experienced partnership of Stace and Robbie May combined in a clever move which almost produced a goal. In the 14th minute another neat combination saw Darren Cook set up Robbie Marks who calmly gave Harwich the lead. Ten minutes later full back Luis Reynolds made a great run and finished with a shot that gave the home keeper Lee Mahoney no chance and put Harwich two up. With half an hour gone Mahoney did well to save Marks shot with his outstretched foot but Ashley Wood was alert and scored the 3rd Harwich goal with an excellent shot from the edge of the area.
Early in the second half Harwich quashed any chance of a Gas revival when again Mahoney did well to keep Wood's shot out but could only put the ball into the path of Marks who netted the fourth goal from close range. Sam Felgate in the Harwich goal had handled the ball confidently throughout and with a strong defence in front of him, the Shrimpers remained in control of the situation for the rest of the match.
It was a dominating performance from Harwich and if they can keep this team together a high finish looks on the cards.
