Harwich took the lead in the 10th minute when Darren Cook beat 3 defenders before going on to net an excellent goal. Bottom of the league Barnston Reserves battled well to belie their position and hold the Shrimpers to a single goal lead at half time.
Harwich welcomed back Ashley Wood to the Club, on his transfer from Little Oakley, and in the 53rd minute he started the move which saw Luis Reynolds provide the opportunity from which Craig Martin scored Harwich second goal. Robbie Marks had a frustrating afternoon in front of goal but in the 66th minutes he set up Martin's second goal. Martin Warnes came on to have a goal disallowed but in the 76th minute Wood finished well for the Shrimpers 4th goal. In the closing minutes Joint Manager Mark Sharp came on to roll back the years with a cameo performance in which he managed to feature in the action at both ends of the pitch much to the delight of his colleagues and the home supporters. Club archivist Carl Allen notes that Mark made his last substitute appearance for Harwich first team 21 years ago, although he did go on to do sterling service in the Reserves team after that date - those were the days!.
