Harwich Managers John Fidgett and Mark Sharp decided on an experienced pairing in midfield of Robbie May and Daryl Eagle and the move paid off. The Shrimpers had the edge from the start and May's 20 yard shot passed inches wide of the crossbar. Gosfield were dangerous on the break and in the 15th minute Brad Harris cross cum shot hit the upright. Harwich took the lead five minutes later when following good work by Martin Warnes and Ashley Wood, Robbie Marks was well placed slip the ball into the net. Warnes 25 yard effort went just past the post as Harwich retained the initiative until half time.
Harwich needed a second goal to snuff out Gosfield's challenge and in the 65tth minute full back Matt Friend made a great run into the home penalty area and scored with a peach of curling shot. United's keeper Peter Greenwood had a fine match for his team and kept Harwich at bay until Craig Martin crossed for Marks to score his second goal.
