Harwich welcomed back skipper Daryl Eagle after an early season injury and have been graudually strengthening their squad. Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate brought off a superb reflex save when Daley broke clear and looked certain to score. Harwich held their own during the first half with main striker Craig Martin several times getting through but failing to test the goalkeeper. A minute before half time Felgate made another fine save by diving to push out Willoughby's shot.
A minute after the restart Gas Rec came close again when Woolgar's free kick struck the post. In the 51st minute Eagle made an uncharacteristic mistake, failing to clear, and Barnard's persistance saw him take advantage and score Gas Rec's vital goal. Harwich got on top, bringing on substitute Robbie Marks and made chance after chance. Strikers Cook, Marks and second sub Warnes all had good scoring opportunities but Harwich just could not find the net. Eagle came forward and his goalbound shot brought a great save from the visitors keeper. Gas Rec broke away and Felgate pushed a shot onto the post. In the end Gas Rec were jubiliant at having weathered the storm to take all three points whereas Harwich were disappointed having lost a match which they never deserved to.
However Harwich can take heart from a number of plus points and will rise up the League if they can repeat this showing.
