Hedinghams included striker Ryan Crush for his first match of the season and he obviously made a difference to them, scoring twice and being named Border League scribe, Brian Read's, Man of the Match.
Harwich took the lead in the 20th minute when from 6 yards Darren Cook swept home Robbie Marks pass. The Shrimpers perked up but ufortunately did not hold their lead for long with Crush outpacing the defence to equalise. The first half had been even but things went wrong for Harwich soon after the restart. Only 2 minutes had gone when Crush lobbed Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate who was off his line. Six minutes later worse happened when defender Ben Hammond partially blocked Keith Argent's shoot and the ball looped over the stranded Felgate. Harwich were unable to find a way back into the game and it was not until the closing stages that Marks, who had led the attack well, saw his effort palmed over the crossbar by goalkeeper Pyman.
There was no denying that Hedinghams deserved their victory and after the match Manager John Fidgett's comment to his team was that they did not need him to tell them that they had not performed well.
