During the first 45 minutes Barnston Reserves did not look a bottom of the table outfit and a close result looked on the cards. Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate was the first to be called into serious action and made a good diving stop. A neat Harwich passing move between Chris Stratton and Robbie Marks finished with Darren Cook shooting just past the post Marks created a chance but Cook was unable to find the target. Matt McGowan-Harvey made an excellent run but again his shot did not test the home keeper. Harwich best effort of the half came when Barnston's keeper did well to tip Marks header onto the crossbar.
The all important Harwich break through came in the 55th minute when Adam Rogers put Stratton through and he shook off his marker to finish well and give the Shrimpers the lead. Five minutes later the hard working Vlad Muresan made the opening for Marks to score the second goal. Substitute Craig overhead kick hit the crossbar as the Shrimpers went close again Harwich were running riot with the Barnston defence now and Marks crossed for Rogers to net the thrid goal. Marks scored the fourth goal with a good finish and then went on to complete his hat trick for the jubiliant Shrimpers.
