The Shrimpers went out of the League Cup following a closely contested encounter against the current leaders of their Division.

Harwich started nervously and goalkeeper Sam Felgate did well to dive to the foot of the post to save George Garland's shot. The Shrimpers got into their stride to make it a closely contested first half with their best effort coming when the visiting keeper Paul Rolfe also made an excellent diving save to turn Chris Stratton's shot out at the expense of a corner. It had been an interesting but goaless first half but things really livened up after the break.
Harwich started a great spell when they got on top in the 65th minute. Leroy Eade was inches within giving them the lead when he made a run from almost the half way line only to see his cracking shot tipped onto the crossbar by Rolfe. It was a magnificient save and Rolfe excelled again when he came out to block Robbie Marks goalbound effort. The Shrimpers purple patch was halted in the 72 minute when Hatfield Peverel broke away and with Felgate coming out to collect, Vlad Muresan misunderstood and put the ball into his own net. Harwich pushed hard for an equaliser but with Rolfe in fine form they could not penetrate the visitors defence. In injury time another smart break from Hatfield Peveral saw Laurence Hale make their victory secure with a looping headed goal.
Harwich will be heartened by this performance and that they were able to strenghten their squad by the inclusion of new signings Darren Cook and Darren Roots who both came on as second half substitutes.
