Harwich line up included many new faces plus some loyal stalwarts, all local lads. Although having not played together before, the Shrimpers started well against a neat Wivenhoe Reserves who will compete in a higher league than Harwich. Harwich took the lead in the first half with a very well taken shot from Graham Davies which gave the keeper no chance. With a surprisingly good performance under such difficult circumstances, Harwich merited their slender half time lead.
With Harwich making changes in the second half to give their full squad playing time, Wivenhoe had more of the ball. Harwich were captained by the experienced central defender Daryl Eagle and he marshalled his defence which gave a resolute display. The Shrimpers fought for every ball in order to retain their lead and came closest to scoring again when Chris Stratton created the opening for James Sayer to hit the crossbar with a cracking shot.
Managers John Fidgett and Mark Sharpe were delighted with their teams performance which was a real morale booster for the Club.
