The Shrimpers lost narrowly to a bright University team.

University of Essex played the first half with 10 men due to traffic hold ups but Harwich failed to take advantage. The University took an early lead when the home defence got in a muddle and Oliver Dibley scored. Harwich had another warning not to take their opponents lightly when the dangerous David Siyengold tested home goalkeeper Sam Felgage. Robbie Marks missed a great opportunity to level the scores from close range but in the 26th minute Leroy Eade carved an opening and Luis Reynolds put Harwich on terms. Four minutes later Harwich gained the lead with Craig Martin the provider for Marks to head home. The Shrimpers created chances to go further ahead but Marks effort was saved and Matt McGowan-Harvey had a shot cleared off the line. A minute before half time Jake Neale was adjudged to have handled and Dibley equalised for University from the penalty spot.
University's 11th man arrived for the second half and in the 65th minute Siyengold pounced on a misplaced header to neatly finish and net what was to prove the winning goal. University had proved to be a good side and earned their victory. Harwich had lost their place at the top of the early season table and slip to 3rd place.
