Great credit must go to Joint Managers John Fidgett and Mark Sharpe, who rode out a turbulent summer and to the Players who now form the new team.
The match proved to be a close encounter from the start with Gosfield United strong opposition. Harwich had snap scoring chances during the first half, notably when Crag Martin crossed the ball across the face of the goal, but were unable to apply the finishing touch. Ben Hammond was missing from the midweek friendly but he returned to form a solid barrier in the centre of the Harwich defence with skipper Daryl Eagle. The vital break through for Harwich came in the 67th minute when Richard Traynor produced a cracking 20 yard drive, worthy of winning any match. Gosfield were still dangerous but in the closing stages Harwich victory was made secure when James Roots crossed for fellow substitute Chris Stratton's header to creep into the far corner of the net.
Harwich were also grateful to their loyal band of supporters who turned up to give the team great encouragement.
