A goal less first half saw both teams have half chances but defences proved to be on top. After the break Ben Ward Cochrane menaced the Harwich defence several times but was thwarted by some fine goalkeeping from Scott Wass. Little Oakley took the lead in the 75th minute when Shaun Kioussis fired a tremendous 30 yard drive into the far corner of the net. The Shrimpers came back but Little Oakley looked favourites to take all 3 points until the 85th minute when substitute Michael Palmer equalised with a neat shot from the edge of the penalty area. With only 2 minutes remaining the Referee restarted the game following a stopage by awarding Harwich a free kick, half way in the visitors half, with the intention that they return the ball to Little Oakley. Nicky Palmer's kick went over the head of goalkeeper Teddy Good and into the roof of the net. The Referee awarded a goal to Harwich but justice was done from the kick off when the Shrimpers allowed Trevor Lewis to go through unchallenged and level the scores.
