Steve Oldhamstead has been a rock and a revelation at the heart of the Harwich defence but absences meant him reverting to his original role as striker and he proved his worth by netting two goals.
The first half was evenly balanced but the Shrimpers took the lead when Mark Palmer was fouled and Michael Maclachlan scored from the penalty spot. Oldhamstead netted his first goal in the 65th minute with a header. Harwich were on top now and youngster Jamie Beecham scored the Shrimpers third goal in the 84th minute. Haverhill will feel that the margin of the score line flattered Harwich when Oldhamstead scored his second goal in the 89th minute but it could not be denied that this was a great win for the Shirmpers.
