Harwich attacked from the start with Heybridge goalkeeper Banner doing well to tip over Steve Oldhamstead’s goal bound long range effort. Banner was the Swifts star man and he brought off another fine save in the 39th minute when he pushed Nicky Palmer’s penalty kick onto the post. The Shrimpers should have been in front and it was against the run of play when Matt Crick gave Heybridge the lead in the 42 minute with a 25 yard shot that eluded keeper Scott Wass. Two minutes later Harwich were back on terms when Michael Palmer scored from close range.
The second half was a quieter affair until the closing stages when Harwich got into gear again. Joss Neale headed the Shrimpers into a deserved lead in the 82nd minute and the three Palmer brothers then featured in an excellent move which ended with Oldhamstead netting the third Harwich goal.
