Depleted Harwich fall to disappointing defeat

With 3 calls offs on the morning of the match Harwich travelled to Halstead with the bare 11 players and having got away it in previous fixtures they came unstuck today against a decent Halstead side who they have already beaten at home this season.

Halstead started the game brightly and their short passing game left Harwich chasing shadows at times and although they grew into the game Halstead opened the scoring when a lovely flighted corner was tapped in at the far post. This was closely followed by a second goal from a free kick.

Harwich re-schuffled in the second half in the hope of getting something out of the game and with George and Max both pushed forward Harwich offered an attacking threat and it was Max who reduced the arrears with 15 minutes remaining stabbing the ball past the on-rushing keeper. However, gaps appeared as Harwich tired and a third goal near the end put paid to any hopes of an in-probable come back.

Halstead 3 - 1 Harwich

A disappointing result which hands the initiative back to Gt Bradfords in the chase for the runners-up spot but on a positive note some really good individual performances, notably from full backs Thomas and Sam and as usual Ryan worked his socks off. Max was awarded man of the match.

Harwich complete their fixtures next week away to Rowhedge in what has been a largely successful season where we have exceeded all expectations although clearly the team would benefit from the recruitment of one or two new players in order to avoid occasions where we are overly stretched with calls offs.
