Date set for Tilbury tie

Date set for Tilbury tie

Andrew Schooler30 Oct - 09:11

Shrimpers will bid to reach Essex Senior Cup quarter-finals for first time in 46 years next month.

The Shrimpers will travel to Tilbury in the last 16 of the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday November 18, it has been confirmed.
The Step 4 outfit thrashed a much-changed Braintree Town 8-1 on Tuesday to set up a meeting with Matt Carmichael’s side, who themselves defeated Woodford Town 2-1 in round three.
The match will take place at Tilbury’s Chadfields ground, kick-off 7.45pm.
Harwich, the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, will be bidding to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1979/80. That season, the Shrimpers reached the final before losing 2-1 to Dagenham at Colchester United’s Layer Road ground.
Last season, the Shrimpers exited at the last-16 stage, crushed 8-1 by Step 3 Hashtag United.
Tilbury are currently 18th in the Isthmian League’s North Division, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference. However, following their poor start to the season, they recently changed management and have signed several new players in the past few weeks. Their win over Braintree was their third in a row in all competitions. Earlier in the campaign, they defeated Harwich’s FA Cup conquerors, AFC Dunstable, 1-0.
A trip to Chadfields will bring back memories of Harwich’s 6-4 thrilling victory there during their famous run to the FA Vase quarter-finals in the 1990/91 campaign.
Joint chairman Tony Amrstrong also has fond memories of Tilbury – he played for them during the 1977/78 season and helped the Dockers reach the third round proper of the FA Cup. Tilbury’s dream run eventually came to an end at Stoke City, where they lost 4-0.
Meanwhile, the Essex Senior League has announced that the draw for the second round of its two knockout cup competitions will take place "next week".
Harwich beat West Essex 2-1 on Tuesday to progress in the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy, while they received a bye straight into the last 16 of the Errington Challenge Cup.
